  Information about the Initial Consultation

Initial consultations are done in my private office. Any legal information, opinion, legal advice or representation I provide begins with an initial consultation. The purpose of the initial consultation is to give us the opportunity to meet personally, to advise you of your legal rights and options, and to explain my services and fees. The initial consultation fee is $20.00 and is due before your consultation begins. If paying by check then please prepare the check before the consultation and make it payable to David Lee Jones, P.A. Please write your driver’s license number (or State of Florida Identification Card number) on the front of the check. Payment by credit card is not offered at this time. I reserve the right to increase my consultation fee in the future.

The initial consultation may be limited to 45 minutes or to such time as is necessary to evaluate basic information provided and to analyze the legal matter. Some consultations require very little time. The initial consultation fee may be credited (applied as a down payment) to one of the services offered in that initial consultation. It will be credited only once. An additional initial consultation and additional fee of $20.00 is required for each additional type of case. If you have more than one legal matter to discuss you may have to schedule the second consultation for another time. The fee to extend the consultation beyond the time limit is $75.00 per half hour or any part thereof. The fee for a follow up consultation, a second or additional consultation about the same legal matter involved in a previous consultation is $75.00 per half hour or any part thereof. The fee for a Custody Consultation is $100.00 per hour or part thereof.

Your consultation will be cancelled immediately (and any consultation fee you have paid will be refunded) if your spouse has previously met with me about marital matters, if you have a dispute or conflict with my former client and in other potential conflict of interest situations. In all other situations, the initial consultation fee is not refundable, even if I refuse to accept your case. Please inform me immediately if there may be a possible conflict of interests. I cannot advise or represent you if there is even so much as an appearance of a conflict of interest unless all interested parties have agreed in writing to waive the conflict.

I can not and will not advise you about the laws of any state other than Florida. I may not be able to offer you any service, information or advice. Also, the consultation may be of little value if important rights depend upon a Court Order, Judgment, Agreement, Deed or other document which is not provided during the consultation. It will cost more to review the document later. I do not determine before the initial consultation whether I can provide any valuable legal advice or opinion. I reserve the right to refuse any case for any reason or for no reason at all.

Your consultation must be confidential. Please do not bring any person, other than your husband or wife, into a consultation or meeting. However, I will not meet with or consult with both spouses about a divorce, separation or prenuptial agreement between the spouses. Initial contact with your spouse in such cases will be in writing.

Generally, children do not need to be informed about a bankruptcy or about the details of a divorce. Do not bring a child into consultation or meeting about a family law matter against or relating to the child’s parent or alleged parent. You may not leave a small child in my waiting area unless you have brought a competent caretaker. There will be no refund of the consultation fee if the consultation is discontinued due to a disruptive or unruly child.

I do not offer or provide information on your legal matter except:

  • In initial consultations

  • In paid follow up consultations; or,

  • After you have retained me.

You may only retain me by a written fee agreement and only after an initial consultation about the legal matter.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.
David Lee Jones, P.A.
